Impregnating sealers are absorbed by the tiles, while topical sealers are not, they rather form a protective layer on top. A sealer reduces the absorbing capacity of the tile. All porous tiles need to be sealed. Non-porous tiles do not require sealing, but the grout lines surrounding them need to be sealed with an impregnating sealer. So are your tiles porous or non-porous? The easiest way to check is by letting a small amount of water fall on to the surface of the tiles and seeing whether the water is absorbed or left on the surface instead. Your tiles are considered to be porous even if only some of the water is absorbed. In case they are porous, and sealant is applied to them, you can run the same test again to see how good the sealer is. Keep in mind that sealers do not provide permanent protection against spills. In case of a spill, they can keep the tiles stain-resistant for about 4-5 hours at the most. The spill needs to be cleaned up within this time to prevent the tiles from getting stained. If your tiles are non-slip tiles, impregnating sealers that do not change this property are recommended.
